The Go Giver – My Business Bible
Today I would like to recommend an excellent book for anyone serious about building a business of any kind. The Go Giver is a brilliant book by Bob Burg and John David Mann and if you are looking for guidance on having the correct mindset whilst developing your business, then this book is a must read. It is a best seller, and rightly so in my opinion…when I first started reading it, I just could not put it down!
It is only a small book but on this occasion, size does not matter, because the sheer quality of the message portrayed in the book is outstanding. It is a brilliantly written book about a big idea, that is so easy to read, as it is written in five short stories. The overwhelming message conveyed by the book resonates strongly with how I feel about business. This is to put helping others first and if you do this then the things you want to achieve in your own business and life will come automatically.
Now I know that we all usually go into business with the aim of being successful and making money…which is no bad thing. It is just that this should not be the first thing you aim to do. Before we start to think about making money we should start by asking, how can I help? How can I add value? If you give more without conditions, your rewards will come naturally. This is the Go Giver message.
Bob and Johns’ beautifully written book is one that emphasises, that your true worth is determined by how much you give…rather than what you take. I recommend you buy it…try it and if you need it to…let it change your life.
My best to you.
Brian

Howdy Brian,
Incredible, man!
If you read the Age of Reason do you think you can get Thomas Paine to comment?!
Excellent post, mister.
Have a grand day, Brian.

Don’t think so Barry, I think he died in 1809!
But then again maybe…if you can contact the dead for me, as you are a man of many talents!!
Thanks for your comments buddy.

This book sounds right up my street Brian – It’s short.
Actually the philosophy also sounds up my street, so I will look out for it.
I think people make a mistake when they chase money. Even if they acquire some, it’s unsatisfying because you now have what you sought, (where do you go from here)?
If you just concentrate on doing whatever you do well, and provide quality, the money will come naturally.

Hi John,
It is a brilliant easy read John, I am sure if you get it you will not be able to put it down. It is such a great philosophy to adopt in life in general, not just in your business.
Thanks for visiting and for your much appreciated comments John.

Hi Brian, Thanks for sharing the title of a good read. I especially like books that are short and sweet and ones that can be devoured in one or two sittings.
I totally agree with the premise of giving first and asking for sales or referrals later. Still, outside of building an online following and a responsive mailing list there are other ways to build an online business without having to endear oneself to others necessarily. In other words, on many occasions I’ve purchased products from marketers who never gave me anything but a good and reasonable offer.
People will buy whatever suits them based on the quality of the sales process and resulting buyer’s impulse but if they’re buying mentoring or personal coaching then relationship and reputation building becomes much more of a factor in the process.
Your post is entirely valid and I certainly don’t mean to detract from it’s central message. I only want to inject a little practicality and pragmatism for the sake of a coin with two sides.
Always, Steve D.

Hi Steve,
You make an equally relevant flipside approach to business building, there is certainly a place for both strategies when making a sale. I for one have made many impusive purchases and been very happy to do so.
I think that the overiding message of the book is that if you give first and are seen to be trying to help others, then they will spread the word and return time and time again. Thus providing a great foundation for your business.
Thanks for your constructive and interesting comment Steve, it is most appreciated.

Brian
