It is only a small book but on this occasion, size does not matter, because the sheer quality of the message portrayed in the book is outstanding. It is a brilliantly written book about a big idea, that is so easy to read, as it is written in five short stories. The overwhelming message conveyed by the book resonates strongly with how I feel about business. This is to put helping others first and if you do this then the things you want to achieve in your own business and life will come automatically.

Now I know that we all usually go into business with the aim of being successful and making money…which is no bad thing. It is just that this should not be the first thing you aim to do. Before we start to think about making money we should start by asking, how can I help? How can I add value? If you give more without conditions, your rewards will come naturally. This is the Go Giver message.

Bob and Johns’ beautifully written book is one that emphasises, that your true worth is determined by how much you give…rather than what you take. I recommend you buy it…try it and if you need it to…let it change your life.

“I have not failed.

This is not only a great quote, but it also gave me the inspiration for my post for Jacinta and Steve’s Blog Post 100 Comments Challenge. Whenever things in my life and business don’t seem to be going to plan, it always gives me the encouragement I need to never give up trying.

We should not be afraid to fail, in fact we must use it as a stepping stone to success. Why not use failure as a positive, an advantage if you like? I’m sure we’ve all experience failures from time to time…I know I’ve had my fair share. The important thing is how we react to them.

It is very unusual to find an entrepreneurial success story that doesn’t include some significant failure or adversity in it. I think that in order to achieve success, failure is a requirement…so let’s not be scared of it!

I have found this mindset to be especially helpful in my internet business, because it is so easy to get dispirited when confusion reigns and to give up when progress and success seems to be a long way off.

At times it can seem as though everything you try just fails to bring positive results. When this happens to me, it seems as though I have had more than my share of the “10,000 ways that won’t work”, but then this just makes me more determined to succeed.

I guess the real purpose of my post is to encourage all of us never to give up and to use what may be perceived as failures in our lives as the inspiration to spur us on to new heights of achievement.

Whilst most of us won’t end up inventing something as momentous as the light bulb, we can take encouragement from the fact that one of the most famous people on the planet had his fair share of failures!

It was a much needed break from my offline business, but a slight detraction from my new online efforts, as I decided not to take my laptop with me to Parga in Greece. I did consider taking it, but as it was my good lady Sandra’s birthday whilst we were there, I thought better of it…a wise decision I think! We had a great time and I am now fully refreshed, ready and more determind than ever to take my efforts to the next level.

Whilst I was away, I received an email from Mandy Allen, whom I have come to learn is a highly respected former masterclass student and a moderator at the masterclass forum. Mandy informs me that there is a 100 blog comment challenge during August, in which fellow internet marketers have got together to try and get 100 bloggers commenting on each others’  blogs, as this helps build back links and improve our google ranking.

So with my lack of posts in July, I think I will be accepting the challenge, so it is definitely time to get the thinking cap on in order to make my next post worthy of this challenge.

Believe me, I learned the hard way…like lots of people I know. I spent money on all sorts of shiny products that promised the earth, but delivered nothing but trouble and strife! Fortunately for me, I didn’t spend as much as some people I know before I came to my senses.

I was just at the point of quitting marketing completely when I finally took the plunge and decided to get myself mentored by John Thornhill and Dave Nicholson. This believe it or not was a decision I took after extensive research and following a lengthy chat with my better half Sandra. I say believe it or not because I really couldn’t believe my ears when she said…go for it.

Her view, very sensibly in my opinion, was that you have to invest in quality training in order to succeed in most things in life. Of course I knew this but usually I find that when you talk to people about internet marketing and making money online they look at you as though you just landed from another planet. Most people in everyday life just don’t get it, I find.

Anyway to get straight to the point, investing in my mentors was the best decision I made online, because my progress has surprised even me. For this reason I say to anyone just starting out…do your research and get a mentor early on and providing you do your due diligence before investing your money you will be amazed at what you can achieve.

We have now set up the widlink widget on our blogs, which enables us to promote each others blogs and to post comments of advice and encouragement. I am already looking forward to week 8, when I shall be given access to the masterclass forum. This will give me the chance to interact with fellow students, which as John says, may lead to possible joint ventures in the future.

As the weeks go by, I am more convinced than ever that my decision to make John Thornhill my mentor was a good one. It has enabled me to focus my efforts on a structured plan for success. Basically there are two types of video marketing to master, screen recording and to camera recording. With both of these there is video equipment and camtasia software to purchase and new skills to learn. But Animoto will let you cut out the cost and dip your toe into video marketing.

This week we are dealing with advanced blogging tactics, in particular  adsense and clickbank adverts. We are also learning how to add widgets to the blog and inserting advertising banners to our site.

John then covers adding video to my blog, which I am really keen to learn as I know that mastering video marketing is something I will need to do in future.
